A guess that scores zero pegs is gold: every colour in it is absent. Mentally cross those off for good.
A white peg means right colour, wrong spot. Use those to fix your palette first, then shuffle positions to convert them to exact hits.
A secret code of four coloured pegs is generated from six colours, with repeats allowed. You have eight guesses. After each guess you get feedback: a white peg for every peg that is the right colour in the right position, and a grey peg for every peg that is the right colour in the wrong position.
White means a peg is completely correct: right colour and right slot. Grey means the colour appears in the code but you have placed it in the wrong slot. Feedback pegs are not tied to specific positions, so you must deduce which is which.
Solving in four or five guesses is a solid result. Consistently cracking the code in three shows strong deductive play. The score you save is the number of guesses used, so lower is better.
It uses the same rules as the classic Mastermind board game and the older pencil game Bulls and Cows: a hidden code, limited guesses, and colour-and-position feedback after each attempt.
